I’ve always been a fan of Scamp trailers ever since we started our small trailer search back in 2009. Whether it’s because they’ve got a fun name or whether it’s because they’re built in a region of Minnesota where I vacationed when I was a little boy, they’ve always been one of my favorite small trailer companies. If I had a “Mount Rushmore of Small Trailers”, Scamp would be one of the four on it. Scamps have been at the top of the heap of molded fiberglass campers since they first emerged from an old Ford garage in Backus, Minnesota back in 1971.
While perusing through some links on our Manufacturers page, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well Scamp has recently updated their website. One thing that I was extremely impressed with was a 13:38 minute video, showing all their lines, floor plans, and the manufacturing process. Although the video was produced in 2012, it’s still relevant and highly informative and well worth the time to watch, especially if you’ve had Scamp on your list of potential trailers to buy. I think that is really neat. I found the video to be very informative. It would be neat if they had an eight foot trailer. I would like something even smaller.
I also wish the molded fiberglass camper manufacturers made a smaller unit. I recently purchased a darling little 1969 Shasta Compact and have had fun redecorating it. The former owner made it couch to bed and all electric with a tv, fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, faux fireplace (looks great at night!) and a Thetford Curve Porta Potti hidden in it’s own little closet. All this in only 10 linear feet! Cute as a button! I would sell it, though, and purchase a fiberglass unit if one were manufactured this small. The Scamps are, indeed, cute little things…thanks for the article! 🙂

I am curious, if Scamp is one of the four for your “Mount Rushmore of Small Trailers”, what are the other three?
I was hoping no one would ask that! There are so many small trailers…past and present…that would be deserving of a spot. You’d have to think about Shasta, Serro Scotty, Airstream Bambi to name a few. I guess I’d need to come up with some better defined criteria to apply the choices to. Might make a good blog post one day!

As always, love articles from Small Trailer Enthusiast, but I am particularly fond of fiberglass trailers. We almost bought a new to us Scamp in October, 2015, but could not get to it fast enough. However, we bought an ’05 Casita 17′ Freedom Deluxe in Novmeber, 2015. Looking forward to camping in 2016! Just did some driveway camping and a trip to the local KOA. Will go to the Smokies in April and have trips planned through June.
